Last month, we presented a Chinese only conference that allowed developers to learn from companies such as Adjust, Apus, and Huawei about improving their opportunities outside China. We chose one of those talks from the event we thought would interest our western developers as well. We hope you enjoy this summary of "How are developers supported through AppGallary" by Zhang Kai, Head of Huawei's Global Eco-Development Game Category.

As the head of Huawei's global eco-development game category, Zhang Kai is mainly responsible for communicating with game developers around the world and putting their apps in Huawei's AppGallery.

What is AppGallery?

Let's start with some numbers: All of the Android app stores already have 2.9 million+ apps, with 6,000 new apps released every day. But 50% of users download zero apps every month. The figure below shows the average number of apps installed per phone in each country, with the average for these countries being 80.

AppGallery is Huawei's pre-installed app store for mobile phones in non-Chinese markets over the years. It mainly focuses on boutique apps and is a supplement to the Google Play marketplace. If you want to release apps on Huawei phones, you can either go through The Google Play channel or access Huawei's HMS Core and publish them in the AppGallery.

Huawei Mobile Intelligent Ecosystem

Huawei phones have been in the global market for a decade. Today, Huawei has 400 million monthly active users and 1.4 million registered developers in more than 170 countries. There are more than 200 million Huawei mobile phone users in the world. If the developer's application can be put on the AppGallery, your app can be exposed to 200 million Huawei mobile phone users worldwide.

HMS Core: Convenient, Efficient and Accurate

HMS Core is a bridge between developers and users. It consists of the following three parts: development, growth, and monetization, each of which has a variety of "Kits" and APIs that can be accessed.

With HMS Core, it takes a novice 30 minutes to register and upload an app, and no more than three days to get the app up and running.

Game Kit: Balance System Load and User Experience

Huawei mobile phones adopt self-developed SoC, so EMUI has more control over resource scheduling. Therefore, the connection between the Game Kit and EMUI also gives more control over the underlying resources.

Huawei's R&D personnel are also continually improving the functions of the Game Kit to help developers' games play with the best performance on Huawei phones.

Haptics Kit: Create A Unique Tactile Experience

Huawei has always focused on vibration feedback, so their Haptics Kit is integrated into its API to help developers create unique tactile experiences. One case example is Baidu and Cherry launching an input method to simulate the touch of a real mechanical keyboard on Huawei mobile phones, which allows users to experience the feel of different mechanical keyboards.

Cast+ Kit/OneHop Kit: Create A Cross-Device Gaming Experience

Cast+ Kit and OneHop Kit can be used to have the phone become a Hub to connect other hardware products in the Huawei ecosystem, such as TVs, speakers, and game controllers. And it can achieve low latency, longer battery life, and touch and connect features (NFC). By using these two kits, developers can develop more attractive features.

AppGallery Connect: Provides A Full Life Cycle Service for Apps

AppGallery is a one-stop service platform, including the whole process of development, distribution, operation, and analysis. You can learn more about the service by logging on to https://developer.huawei.com/en/ to see all of the information.

Summary

AppGallery provides developers with rich support of resources, including app market resources, mobile resources, local marketing resources, joint operations, and revenue sharing. Among them, the available resources in the Huawei app market include splash screen, banner, featured page, gifts, campaigns, albums, and recommendation cards. Huawei's mobile resources outside the AppGallery include wallpapers, Huawei video, browser ads, and pre-installs of your app in new phones. Also, Huawei search provides multiple traffic portals to increase the exposure of the application.

If willing to further cooperate with Huawei, Huawei can provide more resources to developers, such as Public Relations and Mobile Experience Store: Stores Material Display, Conference/Roadshows, Core Fan Group, Promotion by Sales, Ground Promotion, etc. Retail channel stores all over the world are essential marketing fronts that Huawei can provide. Currently, there are 71,400 established retail channel stores across the globe, and 6,000 full-scene flagship stores and experience stores. All stores have various activities from time to time. If developers participate in Huawei's joint operation and have further cooperation with Huawei, their apps will appear in these activities. Joint operation and joint marketing can help games to obtain user growth quickly.

An important point is that Huawei provides a higher percentage of the share of the joint operation. Compared with 70% for Google Play developers, the share for Huawei AppGallery developers is 85% for the first two years.

Huawei has one-stop operation support services, including unified portal access, authentication services, information services, technical support, and account settlement. Go to https://developer.huawei.com/en/ to learn more about these services.
