Version Updates Cocos2d-x

With the release of the newest update, you can now create games that will export to Apple's Metal graphics library, updated support for iOS 13, and a bunch of added improvements.

The Cocos engine has been one of the first and biggest engines used in mobile game development since the release of the iPhone in 2007. We’ve always been working to improve the engine along with the development of Apple in their desire to create a better mobile phone for consumers.

We’ve been working very hard ever since Apple announced their decision to leave OpenGL for their own graphic library called Metal. The new library will be taking total effect in the new iOS 13 and we have been working hard to update our engine so your games will continue to work with all of Apple’s newest and upcoming iPhones, iPads, and other hardware.

Today, after months of testing and weeks of Alpha and Beta editions, our Release Candidate for Cocos 2d-x version 4.0. This update will allow you to futureproof your games and apps today and we hope to have a final release in the upcoming months.

Here are a few of the upgrades you can see with this release:

  • Compatibility for Metal, Apple’s newest graphics library.
  • Improved speed and quality for iOS games thanks to Metal.
  • Updated to be more compatible with iOS 13
  • A large number of bug fixes found in version 3.X of Cocos2d-x.

We hope you have fun testing out Cocos 2D-x 4.0 RC and appreciate you sending our team any issues from within our forums.
