Last week the Cocos crew was in London for the Pocket Gamer Connects event held every year. This is the biggest game conference of the winter with an estimated 2,000 attendees and the largest ever for their event according to one of the members of the event staff.

It was a big event for our team as we just released our news about Cocos Play and were picked up by both VentureBeat, PocketGamer.biz, and a few other blogs. We have to thank the writers as well as the work that was being done by the many journalists talking about us. We got many developers coming up to speak to us.

From the show, we were able to meet a lot of great developers that knew and had used Cocos products and a few that are using them now. Such as Groovy Antoid, who has been building great games using Cocos Creator for the past few years.  We were happy to give him some of our swag, grab a picture, and let him meet the creator of Cocos Creator.

Many people were very interested in Cocos Play from those we chatted with at the event as we saw the need and desire for hypercasual games is still very high and the sessions talking about them were very well attended on the first day. We were able to view a few of these sessions before we had to get back to our meetings.

Even at night, we couldn’t get away from the Cocos power as Fingersoft hosted the night party, a company best known for their car game Hill Climb Racing, based on Cocos2d-x, and a host of other games using Cocos. It was fun to meet up with them and thank them for an awesome party.

Finally, we were able to take part as a nominee for the best game engine at the Mobile Games Awards that were held in downtown London at a beautiful location called Café de Paris. The atmosphere for dinner was terrific and the food was pretty tasty. Many big companies were there including the President of Zynga receiving an award for lifetime achievement.

But the big moment of truth came, and the winner was... not us. Sadly both Cocos Creator and Cocos2d-x weren’t winners this year, but we know we’re growing and have a lot to offer you this year, so be ready. Our most significant announcements for Cocos Creator are still not ready for the public.

For both Jare, the creator of Cocos Creator, and Luke, our marketing manager, this was our first big show of 2020 for Cocos, and we plan to see all of you at GDC in March. We still have a lot of swag in our pockets and are ready to share it with you at the show. So come check us out or set up a meeting with us for GDC.

We can’t wait to see all of you again and all of you Cocos creators in San Francisco.
